Total Cancer Care at Rapides Regional Medical Center provides the cancer patient with a broad scope of services. These range from information about prevention and early detection to diagnostics, surgery, inpatient and outpatient oncology care, radiation therapy services, enterostomal therapy, education and screening programs, social services, discharge planning, home health and hospice care and cancer support groups.

The Oncology Care Center, located on the sixth floor of the medical tower, is an outpatient treatment area that is located within the inpatient oncology unit.

The Oncology Care Center provides outpatient services for chemotherapy, blood transfusions, lab work, IV antibiotics, iron infusions and the administration of other medications. Many procedures, such as bone marrow biopsy, paracentesis, thorocentesis, spinal tap and insertion of central venous catheters are performed in OCC on an outpatient basis. The unit provides patient education and serves as a resource and information center for patients. The OCC staff also provides inpatient chemotherapy education and administers inpatient chemotherapy.

Rapides Cancer Center, located at 605 Medical Center Drive, specializes in outpatient radiation therapy, and is an integral part of the hospital's Total Cancer Care Program. The RCC staff includes a medical director who is board certified in radiation oncology, a medical radiation physicist/administrative director, a board-certified medical radiation physicist, radiation therapists, a registered nurse with certification in oncology nursing, a clinical nutritionist, a certified biomedical equipment technician, and supporting clerical staff and volunteers.

Rapides Cancer Center also houses offices of the local branch of the American Cancer Society and a group of medical oncologists. It also serves as the meeting site for cancer support groups.
